The night outreaches of STRAATWERK started in the late 1960’s to give the love and care of Christ to those who seek the nightlife of Cape Town. We believe that the Body of Christ should be the focal point in bringing the evangelical message of Jesus Christ to these people who frequent the nightlife.
Prayer Outreaches
We do not believe prayers are part of our work – it IS our work.
Prayer teams pray among the people on street and at night clubs. Others also take their own initiative to pray for us during outreaches.
Outreaches at Night Clubs
In all of our outreaches we refer to Jesus Christ Who came to serve us with His life. We believe that by our visibility and by practical service delivery, we show that the Body of Christ equals action. We wear T- shirts or top coats with the message JESUS SAVES clearly on them. The visibility of Christians in the middle of the night makes a definite impact in the city centre. By handing out small gifts, we bring the message of Christ in a non-threatening way. A present becomes a symbolic reference to the gift of new life which Christ gives and which no money can buy. In this way our outreaches create the opportunity for personal discussions. We also make provision for collecting garbage during our outreaches to night clubs while we proclaim: “The streets must be cleaned as well as our lives.”
Outreaches to Bouncers
These key figures at the night clubs of Cape Town get special attention during our outreaches. In view of the fact that they are at the same place every Friday night at the same time as our outreach teams, spontaneous friendships are formed. Follow-up visits, opportunities for Bible study and practical service delivery form part of our outreaches to these big men.
Outreaches to Men Trapped in Prostitution
Young men, transsexual men and a number of drug addicts become trapped in the web of prostitution. We give them encouragement, share the gospel with them and serve them in a number of practical ways.
Hosting Visitor Groups
We believe that it is STRAATWERK’s calling to introduce and motivate the Body of Christ to share the gospel of Jesus Christ in creative ways and in out-of-the-ordinary contexts. On Friday nights we host youth groups, cell groups and groups from various congregations across the world to participate in our night outreaches.
