Principle
"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves..." -Proverbs 31:8-9
Speaking up for those who cannot speak for themselves is the urgent privilege and responsibility of us as a Church. As our Lord's Body, we need to clearly speak the truth in love. We need to love those who are hurting back to life.
A Small Glimpse of the Current Reality in South Africa
We would like to give you a small glimpse of the current reality in South Africa:
- Girls are kidnapped in broad daylight at schools, shopping malls and taxi ranks. They are frequently gang-raped, forced into prostitution and drug abuse. It is not easy to escape, as they are beaten and held captive. Sometimes the girls even get killed.
- After the girls have been recruited, they are often persuaded to invite their sisters and friends into prostitution.
- Parents (who typically are unemployed, have dysfunctional relationships and are "unsuited for care giving") are forcing their children to sell sex from home.
- It happens that communities know of child prostitution, but justify it as a "necessary evil". ( Information taken from findings reported by Molo Songololo )
For many years STRAATWERK has been reaching out to women involved in prostitution and their children. We have found that a staggering amount of children are sexually abused and innocently trapped in prostitution and pornography. They need to be warned and protected!
Vision
The Vision of the Valuable to Jesus Campaign is to warn children in the name of Jesus against abuse, prostitution and pornography and to bring to them the hope of abundant life in Christ.
We are very thankful for church leaders, in identified high-risk areas, with whom we have made contact and with whom we will be partnering in bringing the message to schools in these areas. More contacts are needed. We are looking forward to actively working with local churches in reaching their communities with this message.

During the school visits the message shared is followed by giving each child a care package. Each package contains a Valuable to Jesus key chain and hand-knitted doll.
Why are we using knitted dolls to convey the message?
- You are lovingly handmade by the Almighty God of the Universe.
(the little dolls are handmade, with love) - There is no one like you.
(every doll is unique - not one is the same as the other) - You are extremely valuable - no money can pay for you.
(the dolls are not for sale) - God wants to keep you safe in the palm of His hand.
(the dolls fit in the palm of your hand)
- heal and free women and children who are already involved in prostitution
- prevent those at risk from entering the lifestyle of prostitution
We believe our Lord wants to perform both of these rescue missions through His Church, His Body here on earth.
We are planning on running the Valuable to Jesus Campaign over a period of about three years.
